Why Import Egyptian Spring Onions?
Answers to common questions from international buyers regarding freshness and packing.
Why are Egyptian Spring Onions preferred in Europe?
Egyptian Spring Onions (specifically the Photonis variety) are favored for their mild pungency, straight shafts, and vibrant green color. Grown in the Nile Delta's light sandy soil, they develop a clean, white bulb without the strong biting taste of other origins, making them perfect for fresh salads and retail display.
How do you ensure freshness during transit?
We utilize advanced Hydro-Cooling immediately after harvest to remove field heat. The onions are then packed in water-resistant cartons (plastic or treated cardboard) with gel ice packs or top-icing to maintain a constant temperature of 0-2°C throughout the supply chain.
What are your minimum order quantities?
We accommodate flexible orders starting from air freight pallets for urgent retail programs to full 40ft reefer containers. We can also offer mixed shipments with other green vegetables to optimize your logistics costs.

Our Farm-to-Port Spring Onion Export Process
A strictly temperature-controlled process to prevent wilting.
Farming & Cultivation
Grown in sandy soil with strict irrigation control to ensure clean, white bulbs. We follow rigorous Pre-Harvest Intervals (PHI) to comply with EU MRL standards.
Harvesting & Collection
Harvested in the early morning while temperatures are low. The onions are carefully pulled to avoid bulb damage and transported to the packhouse in shaded trucks.
Quality Control & Processing
At the facility, onions are washed, roots are trimmed, and outer layers are peeled (skinning) to reveal the fresh white stalk. They pass through a Hydro-Cooler to drop core temperature instantly.
Packaging & Shipping
Bundled (typically 12-14 bunches per carton) and packed into 2kg cartons or plastic crates. Shipped with ice packs in reefer containers at 0°C to guarantee crisp arrivals.
Egyptian Spring Onion Export FAQ
Technical details for fresh vegetable importers.
What is your standard packaging?
The most popular export pack is the 2kg Carton containing approx. 14 bundles (approx. 150g each). We also offer loose packs in plastic crates (5kg) for catering clients. We use moisture-resistant packaging to handle the ice/humidity.
Do you use top icing?
Yes, upon request. We can include liquid icing or gel packs inside the cartons to keep the leaves hydrated and cool during transit, which is essential for shelf life.
What documentation is provided?
We provide a complete export file: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Phytosanitary Certificate, Certificate of Origin (EUR.1), and Quality Inspection Report.
